Welcome to Babbling Brooke Readings, located in the Snoqualmie Valley of Washington State.
A few words about us, by Ashleigh …
Why Babbling Brooke? Rivers, waterfalls, and water in general, are all symbols found within the various cards of the Tarot. The Major Arcana cards of The High Priestess, The Empress and the Minor Arcana of The Queen of Swords, in the Smith-Waite deck all have a body of water flowing through them – at the base of the feet of the High Priestess, with the crescent Moon partially submerged by it, at the base and behind the throne of the Queen of Swords, and the waterfall depicted on the Empress above her knee. Many of the Ancient Oracles of the Classical World were near, or in, bodies of water; the Delphic Oracle, for instance, The Pythia would bathe naked in the Castalian Spring then would drink the holier waters of the Cassotis, which flowed closer to the temple, where a naiad possessing magical powers was said to live.
In Irish lore,The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn, which recounts the early adventures of Fionn mac Cumhaill. According to the story, an ordinary salmon ate nine hazelnuts that fell into the Well of Wisdom (an Tobar Segais) from nine hazel trees that surrounded the well. By this act, the salmon gained all the world’s knowledge. The first person to eat of its flesh would in turn gain this knowledge. There are numerous other such tales, including that of Cerridwen and Taliesin.
The opening song from “The Sound of Music” (one of my favorite movies) includes the verse
“My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds that rise from the lake to the trees.
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze.
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over stones on its way,
To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray.”
I’ve often been accused of being a babbling brook,as once I get started, I sometimes have difficulty in stopping, and after my legal name change some years ago, I was then told that I should have taken Brooke as my new name. So, when the opportunity came up to use it, I took advantage of it.
While we have been reading cards for many years, this site represents a new venture for us, as Pagan Professionals.
